Focusing on Service as Action
Communities are made up of groups of people sharing particular characteristics, beliefs or values that exist in proximity. We interact with many communities on a daily basis, from our school to different parts of the city. These communities have needs that are sometimes obvious and sometimes they need to be researched to be identified. Evaluating how these needs can be addressed and taking action towards them can be challenging but empowering.
The community project focuses on community and service, giving students an opportunity to develop awareness of how their strengths and interests can help address community needs. Focusing on service as action can have a real, long-term impact on those communities. Investigation, preparation and planning, action, reflection, and demonstration are the five stages of service learning. By understanding how each stage works you can be more effective in making plans to help address a need in your community.

RESEARCH USING MISOMEDIA * INTERVIEW * SURVEY * OBSERVATIONSupport your facts and intuitions with authentic information by using MISO. Research is done throughout the progress of your project in order to better understand it and improve it. MISO allows you to approach research through several aspects that is engaging and identify the needs of your community. Take action based on the research you have gathered. The questions you use for the surveys and interviews should help you structure your actions. Keep in mind your research might lead to further research to answer questions such as what comes next? why? how? when? How do you know of if charity or aid organization is doing what it says it does? Where do you go to find out how different non-government organizations (NGOs) are rated and evaluated?
